Adiva traces back to 1994, when entrepreneur Nicola Pozio first showed a concept scooter built around the idea of better weather protection for city commuting, with the company itself formally established in 1996. Its signature innovation, an international patent granted in 2004, is a foldable metal roof that combines with a windscreen and side deflectors to shield rider and passenger from rain and wind - a feature unusual among scooters. The best-known result was the Benelli Adiva, produced from 2000 to 2006 as a joint venture between Benelli and Adiva Srl, assembled in Pesaro, Italy, and powered by a Piaggio Leader engine (the same unit used in Piaggio's own Vespa range) - though Adiva itself has operated as an independent design and engineering company rather than a Piaggio subsidiary. The scooter was also sold in France by Renault, rebadged as the "Full Time."
