American IronHorse was founded in 1995 by Tim Edmondson and Bill Rucker in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area, growing into the largest factory producer of custom V-twin motorcycles in the United States, building around 10,000 bikes by 2006 from a 224,000-square-foot Fort Worth plant that housed the entire manufacturing process under one roof. A 2005 financing deal with Textron Inc. unraveled when Textron pulled out of a five-year loan agreement, leaving the company unable to fund operations; American IronHorse filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in early 2008, briefly reorganized under new ownership, then filed again in 2009 and liquidated its remaining assets, ending production. The brand reopened in 2025, though it is not currently building new motorcycles - instead offering a rebuild service along with parts and apparel to the existing owner base.
