Highland Motorcycles

Highland is a Swedish motorcycle manufacturer, Highland Group AB, founded in 1997 by a group of enthusiasts and built by hand at a plant in Skallinge, in southern Sweden. In 1998 the company acquired rights to the Folan V-twin engine - itself descended from an original Husqvarna four-stroke design whose engineers scattered to various projects after Husqvarna's sale to Cagiva - and used it to build adventure-touring and off-road V-twins, including the 950cc V2 Outback and Supermotard models aimed at discerning European and Japanese buyers. Highland later partnered with Great Northern Enterprise, one of China's larger motorcycle manufacturers, in a joint venture intended to produce complete motorcycles and engines for the Asian market alongside components for Highland's Swedish assembly line, targeting output of around 10,000 units a year.
