KYMCO was founded in 1963 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, originally established as a joint venture with Honda to manufacture motorcycle components under license. The company built its early business as a parts and technology partner to Honda before launching its first own-brand scooter in 1970, and began selling motorcycles and scooters under the KYMCO name itself in 1992. Over the following decades KYMCO grew into Taiwan's largest scooter manufacturer and one of the largest in the world, building a reputation for practical, value-focused commuter scooters and small-displacement motorcycles. The company has since expanded into larger-displacement models, including maxi-scooters and, more recently, electric two-wheelers, while its core business remains rooted in the affordable urban mobility segment that Honda's original technology transfer helped establish. KYMCO now manufactures and distributes globally, with a lineup spanning scooters, ATVs, and motorcycles sold across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
