The BMW F 650 GS name covers two different bikes. From 2001 to 2007 it was a single-cylinder adventure bike with a 652cc engine, and from 2008 to 2012 it was a lower-spec version of the F 800 GS with a 798cc parallel twin.
Both versions were popular with commuters, newer riders and overland travellers for their comfort and easy handling. Rivals included the Honda Transalp and Suzuki V-Strom 650.
