The BMW R nineT arrived in 2014 to celebrate 90 years of BMW motorcycles. It pairs the classic air- and oil-cooled 1,170cc boxer twin with a modular steel frame designed for customisation, a premium upside-down fork and a deliberately simple roadster layout.
Power sits around 110 hp, delivered with the boxer's flexible character, and shaft drive keeps maintenance low. BMW later spun off Pure, Scrambler, Urban G/S and Racer versions on the same platform. The R nineT ran until the R 12 nineT replaced it in 2024. Rivals include the Yamaha XSR900, Triumph Thruxton RS and Ducati Scrambler 1100.
