The BMW R 1100 GS is BMW's big adventure bike from the 1990s. It uses an air- and oil-cooled 1,085cc boxer twin with Telelever front suspension and shaft drive.

Comfortable and tough, it set the template for the modern adventure bike. Rivals included the Honda XRV750 Africa Twin and Triumph Tiger 900.
