The BMW R 80 RT is a touring version of BMW's classic air-cooled boxer twin. It uses a 797cc boxer twin with shaft drive, in a chassis with a full fork-mounted fairing and luggage.
Simple, reliable and comfortable, it was popular with long-distance riders and police forces. It was one of the last of BMW's original airhead boxers. Rivals included the Moto Guzzi California and Honda CX500 Eurosport.
