The Ducati Monster 696 was launched in 2008, replacing the Monster 695. It used a 696cc air-cooled L-twin, offering easy, accessible performance.
It had a lighter, more modern design with a new frame and LED rear light, and ABS became available. It was a popular choice for new riders. It was replaced by the Monster 796 and later the Monster 821. Rivals included the Suzuki SV650 and Kawasaki ER-6n.
