The Fat Boy appeared in 1990 as a solid-disc-wheel Softail and became Harley’s most recognised cruiser. Milwaukee-Eight 107 then 114 (and later 117 on some years) replaced the Twin Cam; 2018’s Softail redesign ditched the hidden rear shock layout of the old frame for a new chassis that is stiffer and lighter.
Laden seat height is very low - mid-25-inch range on recent bikes - which is why the Fat Boy shows up on short-rider lists. Wet weight is not: 300-plus kg ready to ride. That combination, not peak hp, defines the model.
Compare with the Indian Chief and other Softail-family Harleys (Breakout, Heritage).
