The Kawasaki Ninja 400 arrived in 2018 to replace the Ninja 300. Its 399cc parallel twin gave it more power, and a new trellis frame made it lighter and more agile.
It quickly became one of the best small sportbikes, combining easy-going road manners with the ability to enjoy a track day. It is a popular choice for new riders and A2 licence holders. In 2024 it was replaced in many markets by the Ninja 500. Rivals include the Yamaha R3, Honda CBR500R and KTM RC 390.
