The Kawasaki Z1000 launched in 2003 and helped create the modern streetfighter class. Its inline-four, originally 953cc and later 1,043cc, gave it strong performance, while aggressive styling and four exhaust outlets made it stand out.
Major updates in 2007, 2010 and 2014 brought more power, a stiffer aluminium frame and the striking 'Sugomi' styling. It is a powerful naked bike for experienced riders. It was discontinued around 2020, leaving the supercharged Z H2 at the top of Kawasaki's naked range. Rivals included the Yamaha MT-10, Honda CB1000R and Suzuki GSX-S1000.
