Magni Motorcycles was founded in 1977 in Samarate, Italy, by Arturo Magni together with his sons, immediately after MV Agusta withdrew from racing that year. Magni had joined MV Agusta's racing department in 1950 under Count Domenico Agusta, rising to chief mechanic and later Sporting Director, and over nearly three decades helped the team amass 75 world championships and more than 3,000 race wins with riders including Giacomo Agostini, John Surtees, and Mike Hailwood. His new company began by producing specialist parts for MV Agusta's shaft-drive four-cylinder 750 street bikes, such as chain-drive conversions and big-bore kits, before building complete motorcycles of its own, often reworking MV Agusta and later Moto Guzzi and Suzuki engines into distinctive hand-built frames. Magni has continued as a small, artisanal manufacturer producing both its own-brand motorcycles and made-to-order specials, trading on Arturo Magni's decades of direct racing pedigree until his death in 2015.
