AJP Motorcycles

AJP was founded in 1987 in Penafiel, northern Portugal, originally as a motorcycle repair workshop run by seven-time Portuguese enduro champion António J. Pinto and his brother Jorge - the company name comes from their initials. AJP built its first complete motorcycle, the Ariana 125, in 1990, followed a year later by the 50cc Galp enduro. A key turning point came in 2001 with the PR4, a 125cc four-stroke off-road model with an under-seat fuel tank that opened export markets across Europe; it was upgraded to 200cc in 2004. The factory moved to Lousada in 2002, and by 2003 AJP was exporting to the UK, France, and Germany. Private equity firm Bicep Capital Group invested in 2009 to expand production capacity. AJP remains a specialist, low-volume manufacturer focused on enduro and trail motorcycles built around its own engines and chassis.
