Matchless was a historic British motorcycle marque based in Plumstead, London, that closed along with the wider AMC group in the late 1960s. Its name and rights were later bought by the Malenotti family of Italy - known for building Belstaff into a global fashion brand - who first used Matchless as a clothing label before returning it to motorcycles. Franco Malenotti, who had previously worked on the Laverda Jota and Moto Morini 500 and with manufacturers including Honda and Bimota, led the revival, producing the Matchless Model X Reloaded as a tribute to the original 1920s Model X. Built around a 1916cc S&S V-twin engine to Matchless's own design, the Model X Reloaded was manufactured through 2017 in very limited numbers for collectors rather than as a return to mass production.
