Midual is a French motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1997 by brothers Olivier and Francois Midy in Angers, France, built around the rare choice of designing and engineering its own proprietary engine rather than sourcing one from an established maker. An early prototype, the Midual 900, was shown at the 1999 Paris Motor Show, but the brothers could not secure enough funding to put it into production and the project was shelved for over a decade. Midual returned in August 2013 with its first roadgoing motorcycle, followed in 2014 by the Midual Type 1, unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance with a price around 155,000 euros, making it one of the most expensive production motorcycles in the world. The company builds in extremely small numbers, treating each machine as a handcrafted, customizable piece rather than a mass-market product.
