Peugeot Motocycles is the oldest continuously operating motorcycle manufacturer in the world, tracing back to 1898 when Peugeot displayed its first motorised two-wheeler, powered by a De Dion-Bouton engine, at the Paris Exhibition. Peugeot was France's leading motorcycle manufacturer into the 1950s and absorbed the pioneering Automoto marque in 1930. The two-wheeler business operates as a distinct entity from Peugeot's car division, and since February 2023 has been owned by the German holding company Mutares. Today Peugeot Motocycles focuses on scooters and small-displacement motorcycles for the European market, a narrower scope than its early-20th-century heyday but a continuous thread back to some of the very first motorised two-wheelers ever built.
