The Yamaha TMAX is the scooter that launched the sports maxi-scooter class in 2001. Its 499cc parallel twin, mounted in a frame with a swingarm like a motorcycle, gave it sporty handling and strong performance, making it one of Europe's best-selling two-wheelers.
In 2012 the engine grew to 530cc, and later versions added traction control, cruise control and keyless start, with the Tech MAX adding more comfort features. In 2020 capacity rose again to 562cc. Rivals include the Honda X-ADV and BMW C 650 Sport.
