The Yamaha XJ 900 is Yamaha's shaft-driven sports tourer of the 1980s. It uses an air-cooled in-line four, 853cc at launch and 891cc from 1985, with a small frame-mounted fairing.
Comfortable, reliable and low-maintenance, it was popular with touring riders and was later developed into the XJ900S Diversion. Rivals included the Suzuki GSX750 and Honda VF750F.
