The Yamaha YZ250X is the cross-country version of Yamaha's long-running YZ250 two-stroke motocrosser. It uses a liquid-cooled 249cc two-stroke single with a wider-ratio gearbox, softer suspension and an 18-inch rear wheel for woods racing.
Simple, light and tough, it is popular with riders who prefer two-stroke power for tight trails. Rivals include the KTM 250 XC and Husqvarna TX 300.
