The Yamaha YZF1000R Thunderace is a big sports bike from Yamaha, launched in 1996. It uses a liquid-cooled 1,002cc in-line four developed from the FZR1000 engine, in an aluminium Deltabox frame.

Fast, stable and comfortable for its class, it was more of a road bike than a racer. It was overshadowed by the YZF-R1 from 1998. Rivals included the Honda CBR900RR Fireblade and Kawasaki ZX-9R.
