Moto Guzzi was founded in 1921 by Carlo Guzzi and brothers Giorgio and Angelo Parodi, based in Mandello del Lario on the shore of Lake Como, where the company remains headquartered today. Its first production model, the Normale, arrived in 1922 with a 500cc single-cylinder engine and became the brand's first major commercial success. Moto Guzzi went on to become one of Italy's most successful racing marques through the mid-20th century, amassing numerous world championships before pulling back from Grand Prix racing in the late 1950s. The company has passed through several owners over the decades and is now part of the Piaggio Group, alongside sister brands Vespa and Aprilia. Moto Guzzi remains distinctive for its transverse V-twin engine layout, a configuration it has used since the 1960s and continues to build its cruiser and touring models around today, giving the brand a mechanical identity that sets it apart from other Italian manufacturers.
