Curtiss Motorcycles is the modern identity of a company originally founded in 1991 as Confederate Motors by Matt Chambers. In 2017 the company announced it would go all-electric and rebrand as Curtiss, taking its new name from aviation and motorcycling pioneer Glenn Curtiss. In May 2018 Curtiss unveiled the Zeus, the world's first "E-Twin" electric motorcycle - two motors joined to a single output shaft - built around a 14.4 kWh lithium-ion battery and producing a claimed 170 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque; it won the "Most Innovative Motorcycle" award at the 2018 Quail Motorcycle Gathering. Curtiss followed the Zeus concept with the production-intent Curtiss One, a hand-built electric cruiser offered to order at a price point above $87,000, continuing the company's positioning as a small-volume, design-led maker of high-performance electric motorcycles rather than a mass manufacturer.
