The Gold Wing is Honda’s luxury tourer, in production since the 1975 GL1000 and in flat-six form since the 1988 GL1500. The GL1800 arrived for 2001 with an 1,832 cc opposed-six, shaft drive and a frame that could carry a stereo, bags and a passenger without feeling like a converted cruiser.
2018 was the only clean-sheet GL1800 reset: a new 1,833 cc six, double-wishbone front end, DCT option, Apple CarPlay and a wet weight that finally dropped below the old 400-plus kg class. Airbag, rear-top-box Tour and bagger F6B variants share the motor and not the same mass. Seat height is low for the size - about 745 mm on current bikes - which is why short riders still consider it.
This is not an adventure bike and not a sport-tourer. Compare Tour DCT with the Harley Road Glide and BMW K 1600 GT.
